Navahermosa, a small town in the province of Toledo, came to a standstill on Thursday. Hundreds of people gathered to say goodbye to Jesús de Miguel, the 30-year-old Tenerife striker who died on Tuesday.

He was injured after a heavy collision during Tenerife's match against Andorra. His parents were from Navahermosa, and that is where he was laid to rest.

The whole Tenerife squad attended the funeral, and his teammates carried the coffin. Representatives of Andorra and of many other clubs were also there, along with leading figures of Spanish football and the country's education minister.

Family, friends and fellow players surrounded his loved ones with support. The mood was one of grief and silence, in a town that was proud of its number 9.
