Samsung Electronics is getting a sixth labor union amid reports of internal rifts
A new union application has been filed with South Korea's labor ministry, which would add a sixth union at Samsung Electronics after reported divisions among members.

Samsung Electronics may soon have a sixth labor union. Labor officials said on Thursday that a sixth union is being formed at South Korea's biggest tech company.
According to the company's largest union, an application to set up the new union was filed with the labor ministry on Wednesday. That largest union has members mainly from Samsung's lucrative semiconductor division, the part of the business that makes the chips the company is best known for.
The move comes after reports of internal divisions among members of the existing unions. The largest union says the new one is being pursued by former and current leaders of the group.
For now, it is an application only. The labor ministry still has to process the filing before the new union can be recognized.
Why does it matter? Union membership at a company as big as Samsung shapes how workers are represented, so every new group adds another voice to the table.
